Comprehensive Answers

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received over my career. It’s normal and encouraged for patients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a licensed Psychologist. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

Therapy Office
What can I expect the first session?

Typically, the first session consists of a comprehensive intake. We discuss the presenting issue and discuss history. This is also when we discuss confidentiality and begin to collaboratively map out a treatment plan.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

Yes, rates are considered on an individual basis, and based on a sliding scale.

How long is each therapy session?

Sessions may vary, but you can expect each session to generally last between 45 and 60 minutes.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes, 24 hours notice is required for cancellations. This provides Dr. Koo the opportunity to offer the appointment to others who may be waiting. It is understood that sometimes situations arise in which 24 hours notice may not be feasible (illness, emergency) and these situations can be discussed on an individual basis.

How do I know if my insurance plan offers out of network benefits?

This information is usually available either on the specific insurance plan's website or through a phone call to the company. Specific information you want to obtain is whether or not your plan offers out of network benefits for mental health services, such as individual therapy, and if so, what are the details (deductible, copayment, coinsurance, etc). This is something I can assist you with navigating.
